Before Chris Hemsworth ’s Thor was a box - office Jagannatha and one of the most beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe characters , he was a purpose nightmare . How do you create a Thor film , with the full , showy aesthetics of Asgard intact , in a way that complements the balance of the population — that can filimically be alongside Iron Man and Captain America ?
Thor answered that interrogation incredibly , but the path to that success was mark by a lot of experimentation . ArtistCharlie Wen , one of thekey artistsbehind earlydesigns for the MCU , has shared some art on Facebook that sheds lighting on the creative choices behind one of the single most important parts of that aesthetic : Mjolnir itself , the mighty hammer of the Mighty Thor .

Thor ’s hammer , it seems , could ’ve gotten a lot more eccentric . As Wen says , going over the top is a part of the concept process , but while doing that he hits on some moderately interesting designs , from the super minimalist to design that leak magic business leader and calculate sort of like those bouncy miniature power hammer little child act with .
While the last design is a good call , I dig these cut concepts . Little while of alternate history .
