For as long as there have been hack comedians , humanity has mull over the question : “ What ’s the flock with airway food for thought ? ” Well , science has figured it out : plane are just too damn tacky for nutrient to try out undecomposed .
Generally talk , it ’s not just that aeroplane food tastes bad – most passengers , when asked , report that the food is bland and a bit flavorless . airline have been very heavily seasoning and salting their nutrient for old age in an attempt to counteract that , but they do n’t have much success to show for it . As it turns out , it might have been easier to just enter out a way to make the railway locomotive run wordlessly .
That rather strange conclusion comes from a new study at the University of Manchester . investigator Andy Woods detect aeroplane were n’t the only post where nutrient had to be heavily temper to get any flavor , and he wonder about a potential connectedness :

“ There ’s a general opinion that aeroplane food are n’t wild . I ’m trusted airline business do their honest – and given that , we wonder if there are other reasons why the food would not be so good . One thought was perhaps the background noise has some impact . NASA gives their space explorers very strong - tasting foods , because for some reason thay ca n’t taste food that powerfully – again , perhaps it ’s the desktop haphazardness . There was no previous research on this , so we went about find out if the hunch was correct . ”
Woods ’s study was pretty small – only 48 people were tested , so another cycle of experiments is definitely needed to be certain about this – but the results were striking . The test subjects were blindfold and given headphones that were either completely soundless or somewhat noisy . They were then feed sweet foods like biscuit and salty foods like tater chips , and asked to rate how intense the flavors were and how much they liked those flavors .
In the noisy surroundings , the test study found solid food less flavorful – the salt and sweetness were right smart down – but actually find the food quite a flake crunchier than those eating in quiet . Sir Henry Wood believes this is because the screen background racket disquiet diners , which makes people ’s brains unable to decent contract on the flavor of the food . Since crunchiness has a noise constituent to it as well , that might excuse why people notice it more in noisier place setting .

There ’s also the possible action that the nutrient tastes better the more hoi polloi like the interference they ’re hearing , although Woods says there will need to be extra psychometric test to track down that effect . So if you want to enjoy your aeroplane food , instruct to fuck the strait of spirt engine … or invest in some good quality headphone .
