During Bruce Springsteen ’s keynote SXSW speech last night , he unwrap that , like numberless creative person and musical Acts of the Apostles before him , he routinely lifted Riffian from his forerunner ’s songs . So does this mean he ’s move to get sued by the RIAA for piracy or does that reckon as clean use ?
Per The Boss himself ,
For me , it was The Animals . … “ We Got ta Get Out Of This shoes ” had a great bass riff , you know it had that-[plays Riffian on guitar]-and that was just a clock , a clock marking fourth dimension . [ sings the first few line ] That ’s every song I ’ve ever written . “ Badlands ” , “ Prove It All Night ” , “ Darkness ” was filled with Animals . tyke , look on this one . I ’ll tell apart you how it ’s done mighty now . I occupy “ Do n’t permit Me Be Misunderstood ” [ hums and strums the Animals riff , then transitions into his birdcall Badlands]-It ’s the same fucking Riffian humanity . Listen up youngsters : this is how successful larceny is carry through .

And Springsteen is not alone . Michael Jackson lifted the bassline of Billie Jean from Hall and Oates who themselves arise it from an earlier act . Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton both grew up imitating American blues guitarist like Robert Johnson , Lady GaGa has basically ripped off everything Madonna did in the ’ 80 — hell , Moby would still just be a white hulk if it were n’t for this drill of building upon previous artists ’ works .
