Love , and a incorrect Intersect , might be drive Chuck crazy — crazy enough to get him locked up in the psych hospital ward . Meanwhile , Ellie ’s getting wooed by the Ring and Morgan ’s getting his groove back .
Chuck has been try out , very hard , these past two weeks to find a way to integrate the relationship development with the espionage progression . I ’m certain the producers recognise that a happy Chuck makes for a boring serial . ( We’vetalked about that , have n’t we ? Okay , just making certain we ’re together on this . ) And so this week ’s episode , “ Chuck Versus the Tooth , ” reckon like it was going to append something young and interesting into the mix : insanity .

Or , specifically , that the Intersect was malfunctioning and beginning to infect Chuck ’s dreams to the point where he ’s starting to stargaze the future . While falling gone on Sarah ’s lap while watching Spies Like Us — and getting the with child “ I love you ” matzo - ball from her — Chuck wake up having see flash of Gen. Beckman clangor cymbals , Beethoven ’s fizzle , the words “ the fearsome round raise his sword … disgraceful trolling with cruddy , ” and the numb Agent Shaw delivering Zamibian take - out . All of which go Chuck to believe that someone ’s gon na make a play for the President of Zamibia at the Philharmonic the next Nox — and leads everyone else to believe that he needs to see a healer . Specifically , a CIA healer ( flirt by Christopher Lloyd ) named Dr. Dreyfus who narrate Chuck that he ’s bench until the Intersect — which might be screw with his subconscious — bring itself out .
Back in the humanity of Morgan — who actually dropped a “ awe is the mind grampus ” when talking to the miraculously unmalarial Devon — his old flaming Anna ( Julia Ling ) has return , looking to get back into his life . If only he had fourth dimension for her : He ’s nonplus ta assist his boy ram a Symphony . While wearing a tux . And driving Anna a wee bit crazy .
Anywhoo , as Chuck and Morgan train to deliver Zamibia ’s president from a dream - threat , Ellie is confronted in the Buy More by Justin , the handsome young doctor who injected Devon with the malaria - succus . But now , he ’s posing as a CIA agent raging on the track of Stephen J. Bartowski , and trying to protect him from an allegedly rapscallion John Casey . by nature , Ellie ca n’t tell anyone about this , but if she ’s get a way to contact Dear Old Dad , she should use it . ( Which will , of course , end spectacularly not well for all require in coming episode . )

So Chuck falls asleep while listening to the Beethoven Symphony — how anyone could nod off during “ Ode the Joy ” is beyond me — and dreaming - flashes on Shaw , telling him that President Cudi ’s science buddy is the assassin . Chuck and Sarah blaze up to the presidential box and Chuck flashes on the scientist , Dr. Kwambe , and clocks him in the visage , hoping to bump what he ’s sure is a Ring data - tooth . For his trouble , Chuck is immure to a psychiatrical hospital ward — and Sarah take that Chuck ’s been lie about his condition .
And then we ’re in full - on One Flew Over the Cuckoo ’s Nest musical mode , with Lloyd ( who costarred in Cuckoo ’s Nest , right smart back when ) precede a bathrobed Chuck to his fellow inmates — a motley crew of mad former broker . And when Sarah and Casey visit Chuck in the Baroness Jackson of Lodsworth , he twist on the full - gauge crazy : flaring his eyeball , horking up the tooth he knock from Kwambe ’s mouth , and call for Sarah to test it . To prove that he is n’t crazy . Except poor Chuck knocked out the unseasonable tooth .
Chuck , lock up off in the loony bin , try his credibility with the CIA , frazzle his relationship with Sarah , break a whole quite a little of unsolved pillowcase from the insano - broker — that could ’ve been a pretty interesting couple of episodes . It would ’ve undersell the whole “ Happy Boring Chuck ” job , while permit us see novel corner of the character . How much does Sarah love him ? Enough to watch him meltdown ? How much does Chuck need to be a spy ? Enough to take on the cold case lead by his yardbird ? What happens to the human race of Chuck when Chuck ca n’t be in it ?

We ’ll never have a go at it , as this instalment nipped that in the bud by having the Evil Dr. Kwambe show up in the psych ward and threaten to kill Chuck unless his explains how he knew about the data point - tooth . And then Sarah and Casey lighter in , outsmart people up , and Dr. Dreyfus declares Chuck fit enough for duty . And Sarah in conclusion tells Chuck that she loves him .
Oh , and Shaw might not in reality be utter after all and Chuck ’s Intersect might be kill him .
While I would ’ve liked to have seen Chuck diddle out the mental institution stuff a bit longer , I ’m rather intrigued by the raw clock that ’s ticking on Bartowski the Younger . Nothing sum urgency more than impending doomsday . And that ’s what Chuck ’s been lacking since the faux - nale of a distich weeks back : urgency .
