Oh , Lost , Lost , why must you toy with me ? Last week so good , this week so dull . We did , however , learn that I am not the only soul holding on to VHS technology past its prime . Ben ’s get his secret videotape hive up away in a safe — and he also got one of the eventide ’s best lines . I chose today ’s cartridge holder not only out of a sense of Luddite solidarity with Ben , but because one of the things I most enjoy about Lost is the rickety , antiquated nature of the island ’s technological substructure . We did n’t get to see much of that last night , other than Faraday furiously typing codification at the Tempest post . Instead , we have Juliet — gobs and lot of Juliet . My least favorite character . mollycoddler and discussion , after the jump .
I bang that a lot of you like Juliet . I do n’t — and I ’m not exclusively sure why . I think it may be a combo of her constantly self-satisfied expression plus a vulnerability that constitute me desire to slap her rather than identify with or want to help her — because it ’s her inactive - aggressive way of manipulating people . I ’m not certain if this the room the fiber is write or the means actor Elizabeth Mitchell plays her . Either way , I ’d be totally remiss if I did n’t remark that Juliet got another of the evening ’s good lines . Jack evince incredulity that Ben has a healer on staff , and Juliet blast back : “ It ’s very stressful being an Other , Jack . ” Hah !
Too much Juliet was n’t the only unsatisfying aspect of “ The Other Woman , ” though after last week ’s spell de force , anything block full disclosure of What It All Means , excuse by a nude Desmond , was bound to light abruptly of expectation . “ The Other Woman ” falls into the category of misplace episodes that seem endlessly retentive because they do piffling to move on the storyline . Did we really ask a whole newfangled character ( Harper ) plus her not particularly interesting back story , just to get Juliet to follow Charlotte and Dan to the Tempest ? Ben has or had a compaction on Juliet ( or prefer to make people believe that ) . Did we need valued mo wasted on Goodwin / Harper / Juliet to explicate Ben ’s anger at Juliet ? We already eff he ’s pitiless and controlling , why drag Juliet up the hill to see that “ the Tailies ” kill Goodwin ? I ’m sure this was all meant to underscore the hatred that leads to Juliet ’s defection but , to me , this storyline felt shoehorned in and unneeded .
On the other hand , I really want to know what happened to Ben ’s childhood sweetheart , Annie , take over here that she is the person who Juliet attend so much like .
speak of unbelievable , let ’s talk for a present moment about Locke , who manifestly now consider everything that Ben tells him . I ’m glad for the tidbit of info about Charles Widmore and his hunting for the island ( it ’s looking more and more like he is “ The Economist ” who employed Sayid ’s doomed futuresweetie ) , but has n’t Locke learn that whenever Ben starts handing out dossiers , it ’s for Ben ’s welfare and nobody else ’s ? Totally have it off Ben ’s laconic “ so has the revolution set out yet ? ” He ’s got Locke ’s number all right .
Ben plainly fear and hat Widmore . So because Ben = bad , does Widmore = good ? Or – my take , so far – are they both bad apples , bended on the island ’s exploitation , each for his own nefarious intention ? And where does Penny conform to into it all ?
I assume Claire wants to speak to Miles because of her former confab with psychics back home ( who told her not to let other multitude lift her babe ) . Miles is not so stable , and it seems that Claire does n’t make it off the island — or makes it off the island and dies . Is there a connection ?
C.S. Lewis and Dan Faraday have disarmed the Tempest station . They have either saved everyone on the island from the poison gas Ben mean to kill them with , or they have destroyed one of the island ’s argumentation of demurrer , making it easy for the Freighties to aggress .
