Pirate Parties International latterly had a meeting wherein a particularly bonkers marriage proposal was talk over . The trouble : Where can servers that storehouse data frequently come across as offensive be kept ? The solution : Hanging from a giant balloon in the sky ?
Pirate Parties International , which , notably , does not have direct standoff to PiratPartiet ( the Swedish political party with two MPs and link to The Pirate Bay andWikiLeaks ) , still has to constantly deal with the seizing of various server . Trying to keep these waiter secure from the authorities is no easy chore , one that is forever being fought . The group triedback in 2007to store its servers on Sealand , a former British naval base off the coast of Suffolk that ( mostly ) splinter and claimed independence as a micronation . ( Side note : The chronicle of Sealand is fascinating and often hilarious — itsWikipedia pageis highly recommended . ) But the trade fell through , so PPI often has brainstorming sessions to make out up with new idea .
Some of those might be more practicable than others .

Last week , the group ’s mailing list include discussion of a possible airborne host , gazump up to either a blimp ( solar - powered , of course , like theNephelios ) or a weather condition balloon . That craft would both keep it safe and , in the words of one Swedish engineer , “ hopefully get to the crap out of authorities in as many countries as possible . ” Of naturally , this idea is n’t totally hardheaded , since the grouping has limited resources and an airborne host presents a whole host of problems ( not least of which is how to keep it in the air for an extended period of clip ) .
Other suggestions included a humbled - grade artificial satellite , which is more expensive but actually a better melodic theme — it ’s permanent , it ’s already been done , and it operates in less dubious sound waters . Not to say that it would n’t be expectant to see a jumbo floating balloon attach to a server in the sky , but it might only happen when pigs fly alongside it .
