This is our new intern Ben . He just get going today . We have no thought where he ’s gone . This realise us retrieve that we ’re such horrible mass to work with that we run him off before lunch on his first daytime . But we do n’t know for certain — perhaps he was raptured , or was kidnapped and is now being held hostage by a rival blog . Ben , if you ’re reading this , please fare back — we care you .
Also ! Even if we discover Ben — but especially if he ’s been Harold Campinged — we still need a few awesome interns right now . Here ’s the basic schema for what we look for in interns .
The essentials :
• You should want to be a diarist or newsman or writer or something of the sort when you grow up — experience at a newsprint or magazine is A++++ , will buy again
• Like applied science and the internet a set
• Basic experience with HTML , Flickr , FTP , Facebook , Twitter — thing that people do on the internet
• Dedication . It ’s like , intense here .
• A decent laptop computer
• Over 18
• Willingness to learn . We do n’t expect you to bang everything when you get here , but you should be willing to put the work in to get word .
• power to commit at minimal 20 hours a week , with full time being the penchant .
The stuff you ’ll be getting learned :
• Research and coverage : Learning how to rip together lot of different kinds of entropy from multiple sources for editors
• Spotting fib : Learning how to find and pitch stories from multiple sources and lead
• Other , um , thing
Essentially , you ’ll be learning the rudiments of writing about engineering and internet culture . And very probably recreate with a band of gadgets . Oh , there is a small stipend , too .
