Seriously . I ca n’t stop thinking about Monday ’s episode of Adventure Time , which was one of the most intense things I ’ve seen in ages . The final scene , where Marceline and Ice King have this weird distich , made me fall back my mother fucker and keeps pop into my heading . It ’s rare that any television show gets its maulers into your mentality like that , but especially a kid ’s cartoon . It ’s kind of nuts .

Marceline and Ice King , particularly , started out as two pretty one - note villains . Until this past week , I would have said Adventure Time was one of the best appearance out there , strictly because of :
1 ) The frequently harebrained , hilarious , trippy imagery and weird humour , like that one instalment where Finn is held prisoner by mole multitude but Jake is too busy dancing and then partying on a cloud with the devil dog to rescue him .
2 ) The often sophisticated sense of humor , which works on multiple levels , with fart jokes and deal gags alongside middling clever satire and in - jokes .
3 ) The unbelievably ample and ofttimes nonsensical humanity - building , which at this point let in dozens of fan - favorite characters and a ton of go back configurations .
4 ) Lumpy Space Princess .
But after Monday ’s episode , I ’m realizing quite how much I ’ve touch base with the characters on this show on an worked up spirit level , and how deep it ’s up to of getting into themes like the toll of thaumaturgy . And the way Marceline ’s personal loss mirrors the wide loss of the destruction of the integral world . There have been plenty of other TV shows this preceding week , but none of them have knocked me on ass the way Adventure Time did — enough that I ’m now remembering a lot of early episodes with a new grasp .
