Ever since I watch theF-35 daimon helmet — which give way a 360 - degree spheric view of the battlefield — I have wondered how it really looks inside , for the pilot . No more : Jump to minute 3:50 .

The helmet projects an augmented realness world inside its vizor . This image is created by a visualization , targeting , and situational awareness wonder called Electro Optical distribute Aperture System , which combines the feeds from six advanced infrared digital camera located around the aircraft and other sensors — like microwave radar — into a seamless 360 - degree spherical cyclorama , all in real meter .

The panorama inside the helmet effectively makes the F-35 totally invisible to the cowcatcher . In fact , he will be invisible to himself : If he search down to his legs , he wo n’t see anything but the priming . He will be able to look to any way and get a cleared view of what is happening , Clarence Shepard Day Jr. or night . And not only the image is quartz clear at all time , but it also gets overlaid with information from the targeting system .
The targeting and radar system can detect any move object in the basis or the air , identifying them it as friend or opposition , as well as their direction under any conditions . It then leave the pilot to operate on one , fire , and direct the weapon towards it .
The system is on the face of it so advanced that Northrop Grumman — the manufacturer — goes as far as say that it make the F-35 ’s maneuverability irrelevant : “ Instead of common kill , the F-35 simply pass away the combat , and have its missile do the turning . ” I do n’t sleep together if that will examine true in actual combat , but it does n’t make the helmet and DAS less impressive .
