Katharine McPheerecently caught up with her old musical theater buddy – and invited the royal mom-to-be to come see her on West End!

During an appearance onGood Morning Britainon Tuesday, theSmashstar added that although they posed for a photo together at the event, she hadn’t been able to get it. “You know, the royals have to approve everything,” she shared.

McPhee recently revealed her royal connection to celebrate her starring role in London’s production ofWaitress, a role she previously played on Broadway. Sheshared a throwback photo with Meghanas they both smile in stage makeup – including bright red lipstick!

“Both did musicals together as a kid. one is now the duchess and the other is starring on the west end. basically the same life if you ask me,” the singer and actress captioned the post, adding the hashtag #tbt.

McPhee shared onGood Morning Britainthat she contemplated sharing the photo around the time of Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding but thought to herself, “That’s stupid. That’s opportunistic.”

She added with a laugh, “But then when I had something to promote, I’m here in London, living in her country now doing a musical, I thought, ‘I’ll post it!’ And it became a much bigger thing.’ ”

McPhee – who recalled Meghan as being “always lovely and always talented and always put together” – also wants the Duchess of Sussex to come see her perform inWaitress.

“I’d like her to come to the show – but no pressure on her,” she told theEvening Standard. “I’m hoping she will, and I’m going to invite her through some mutual friends.”

Aside from naming the National Theatre in London as one of her four initial patronages, Meghan has been known to catch a show for a private date night with Harry every now and again. Before seeing agala performance ofHamilton, the couplesaw the hit musicalon West End around Valentine’s Day last year.

The royal parents-to-be, who are expecting their first child in April, headed across town earlier this month toseeTina — The Tina Turner Musical.

They were fulfilling a promise they made in November when they attended theRoyal Variety Performance at The London Palladium, where they met some of the show’s performers and said they would like to come see the musical.

“We were thrilled and honoured to welcome The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the show last night,” the musical’s official Twitter accounted tweeted.
