According to a 2018 profile written about him in theVCReporter, Nanda was born in Atlanta and his parents emigrated from India. He was a fan of comedy going back to his childhood when he would record jokes from Comedy Central in a notebook and then retell them at school.

“I didn’t realize I was stealing jokes until I was in high school,” Nanda told theVC Reporter. “When I was in high school I started writing my own jokes using the structure of some of the jokes I had previously stolen. I filled up a notebook of jokes and didn’t realize until college that I could go to an open mic and tell them. I actually had a friend read the notebook and tell me, ‘You know you can just go perform these, right?’ I didn’t know, but after a quick Google search I was off to the Laughing Skull open mic.”

In addition to saying that he keeps his comedy “personable and relatable,” Nanda at the time cited his appearance onKimmelas the greatest accomplishment of his comedy career to that point.

“I’ve always wanted to do a set on late night, andJimmy Kimmelwas my first choice,” he said, per theVC Reporter. “So the fact that it came together kind of blew my mind. I’ve performed on other networks like Comedy Central, Hulu, Viceland, etc., butJimmy Kimmelwas the first place I performed where my parents were a fan of the host.”

According to his website, his most recent appearancewas scheduled for Dec. 15 and 16 at Toronto’s Jokers Theatre and Comedy Club, billed as his last headlining show of this year.

Upon the news of his death, Nanda’s fellow comics paid tribute to him on social media.
