Whoopi Goldbergis recruiting stars for the long-awaited thirdSister Actmovie!
WhenAbbott Elementary’sSheryl Lee Ralphappeared onThe ViewWednesday, Goldberg, 68, asked Ralph — who had a role in 1993’sSister Act 2: Back in the Habit— to return to the show for an upcomingSister Actcast reunion. Not only that, she asked the Emmy winner to potentially star in the third sequel, which has beenin the worksfor years now.
“Something that’s gonna happen here in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary ofSister Act 2, the producers here atThe Vieware working on putting together a reunion,” Goldberg told Ralph, 67, after the show aired a scene from the series' second film. “And we’re gonna try to get as many cast members on to share memories from the movie. Would you do us the honor of coming back? And as soon as we know when it is, we’ll do that.”
After Ralph said she “would love to” return toThe Viewfor a cast reunion soon, Goldberg upped the ante. “I will also do this,” she said. “We’re in the process of putting together [the third movie]. Will you come be part of it? Whatever it is.”
Ralph appeared to emotionally agree to Goldberg’s proposal for a third film during the broadcast.

After Goldberg lobbied for years to to make a thirdSister Actmovie, Walt Disney Studiosannouncedathird film in the series was in developmentin 2020, withTyler Perryannounced as a producer. At the time, Disney said it would distribute the movie on its Disney+ streaming service, but the movie still appears to still be in development.

Since then, Goldberg has dutifully continued recruiting actors for the movie, includingMaggie Smith, who appeared in each of the first two films. She has also said she would like to seeKeke Palmer,LizzoandNicki Minajappear in a third film.

“I was told no one was interested in this. It takes a minute for people to realize they should take their foot out of their mouth,” Goldberg toldEntertainment Tonightof the in-the-works movie back in 2022. At the time, she appeared to say a script for the movie had not been finalized yet.
“You’re never fully happy with a script because one of the things you find is you wanna have the space to make an adjustment if you need to,” she added. “Sometimes what looks right on paper doesn’t come out of your mouth the right way. You have to move it around a little bit, but I’m very hopeful people will be happy.”
